My husband Al has always been a biker, the only time he didn’t have a bike was the years he lived in Calgary. When we first moved to the island his first words driving the Sooke Road was, we need to get a bike. My only experience on a bike was a short ride down the alley when a neighbor got his bike when I was about 12 and riding on the back of a Yamaha Exciter with an old friend in Creston.
We did get our first bike a Kawasaki from dealer here in Sooke shortly after we moved here. On one of our trips to Calgary on the bike, we meet a couple from Wetaskawin Alberta who had a great deal on a 1982 Goldwing. I was skeptical but Al wasn’t. I think he had mentally brought the bike sight unseen. We rented a car in Calgary and drove up (why rent a car – because Al knew he was going to be driving the Goldwing back and I needed something I could drive back to Calgary. I love being a co rider with Al and we have had some incredible trips – the biggest and best so far is the trip across Canada and the US this last summer. When financing and timing is right, I look forward to getting my own bike.
